Bluefield Partners LLP (“Bluefield”), established in 2009, is one of the fastest growing investment groups focused on solar PV in Europe. It is supported by Bluefield Services Ltd (“BSL”), its Bristol based asset management company. In 2013, Bluefield listed the Bluefield Solar Income Fund (BSIF.L) on the London Stock Exchange, the, the first, and highest performing, of the publicly traded solar PV focused investment companies. BSIF has over £600m of gross assets and 400MWp of UK based solar PV farms. The Bluefield team has been involved in over £1.5 billion of solar PV funds and/or transactions in both the UK and Europe since 2008, including £750m in the UK since 2011.

Bluefield is majority owned and managed by its three founding partners. The partners are supported by a dedicated and highly experienced team of investment, legal and finance executives.

The Role

Investment Execution:

Reporting to the Partner responsible for investments, the candidate will work within Bluefield’s investment team. Working on the full investment lifecycle they will participate in all stages of the investment lifecycle:

  • Maintain knowledge of the target investment market in order to proactively create or identify investment opportunities;
  • Originate new investments through negotiating pricing and terms and securing exclusivity;
  • Project manage due diligence with internal and external advisers working throughout in close collaboration with Bluefield’s legal, technical and accounting team members;
  • Play active role in negotiation of key transaction documents including oversight of SPA, EPC, O&M and other core transaction documents;
  • Prepare and present investment committee papers to Bluefield’s Investment Committee and if required to the Fund Board;
  • Oversee the closing and post-closing actions

Investment Management:

The candidate will have responsibility for overseeing the key value drivers and decisions on portfolio investments drawing upon the input of the technical, legal and accounting teams. The candidate will collaborate with Bluefield’s sister technical Asset Management business to maintain oversight of asset performance and to provide input on investment events. The employee will seek to identify and will oversee opportunities for enhancement of investment value such as contract replacement or renegotiation, innovations, refinancing and operational efficiencies.

Investment Reporting and Valuation:

The candidate will be required to contribute to Bluefield’s wider reporting obligations through, when required, supporting the evaluation of new market or investment opportunities; undertaking valuation of the asset portfolio; arrangement of debt financing or refinancing and support in ongoing loan compliance; contributing to board and shareholder reporting; providing regular pipeline reporting updates.

Wider business support:

As part of a small experienced group of investment and finance professionals the candidate will be required to contribute widely to ongoing growth of the business through activities such as conference presentations; investor meetings and presentations; market analysis and research; fund documentation among others. You may be required to take on line management of more junior members of the investment team.

Skills/Experiences required:

  • 5+ years experience in investment or financing
  • Experience in renewable energy investment and preferably in UK solar energy
  • Track record of playing lead or co-lead roles in European energy transactions
  • Strong understanding and familiarity with the terms of key legal transaction documents (SPA, EPC, O&M)
  • Strong financial and analytical ability
  • Strong project management and due diligence capabilities including an understanding of the key due diligence focus areas for the solar PV asset class
  • Understanding of renewable energy regulation
  • Strong negotiation skills and confidence in communication and presentation
  • Team player able to collaborate and influence across multidisciplinary team at all levels of seniority
  • Obtained at least a 2:1 (or equivalent) in your chosen degree discipline
  • Demonstrated track record of superior academic and work performance; demonstrated commitment to outstanding results
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, work on multiple assignments and manage rapidly changing assignments in a team environment
